Take care of your sail

There is a lot of talk about a sail's performance and what luff etc. it has, but very rarely about how to take care of it.
What should you consider when handling? I'm worried about my stuff - what do I do?

10 ways to keep your sail in good condition:

  • Keep the sail out of the sun when not in use. UV rays are hard on the materials.
  • Do not leave the sail rigged when not in use. This can stretch the materials and ruin your mast.
  • Store the sail in the sail bag. This protects the sail when not in use.
  • Do not furl the sail when it is sandy. The sand wears down the materials. Instead, try to find a patch of grass or similar on the spot where you are.
  • The sail should not be stored rolled up in a wet state for too long.
  • Never tighten the slats too tightly.
  • Repair small tears as soon as possible. This will prevent even greater damage.
  • Do not leave the sail furled “clew down” if you store them upright. Mast pocket down!
  • Don't strap the sail to the roof or leave it under all the other stuff in your fully loaded car. Put it on top so you don't risk crushing it.
  • Don't lend your sail to others – let them buy their own 🙂 (A little joking, a little serious)
